The original creators behind the famous ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has announced how parent company the multinational conglomerate blocked the launch for an innovative Palestine-themed frozen dessert product.

The entrepreneur, who established the business alongside his partner, announced how he will personally create the controversial flavor within a personal series showcasing issues Ben & Jerry's has been prevented from speaking out about.

Longstanding Conflict Between Founders versus Corporate Owner

This latest development intensifies the continuing conflict between the world-famous dessert company and its corporate parent, the British consumer goods corporation which acquired the ice cream brand for over two decades.

Both founders have asserted how the parent company along with its ice cream arm Magnum unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's against "maintaining its activist principles".

Watermelon Sorbet as a Symbol for Support

Mr. Cohen revealed through an Instagram video how he is creating an innovative watermelon-flavored sorbet, requesting public suggestions regarding naming options plus additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen declared in a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-based frozen dessert that advocates for permanent peace in Palestine and calls for addressing the harm that was done there.”

The watermelon has become a symbol of support for Palestinians because of its coloration, that mirror those of the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Activism and Recent Changes

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of their merchandise in areas under Israeli control, resulting in Unilever transferring the Israeli operation to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing ongoing distribution in the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming dessert series will be created through Ben's Best, the socially conscious dessert company which originally created several years back to support ex- political contender Bernie Sanders via the flavor "Bernie's Return".

Management Shifts plus Upcoming Plans

Mr. Cohen stated how he plans to create additional frozen dessert varieties focusing on concerns which Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking about openly due to Unilever.

The announcement follows partner Jerry Greenfield stepped down from the company recently, following many years with the organization, mentioning concerns that the company's autonomy was compromised after Unilever's decision to restrict its social activism.

At that time, Mr. Cohen remarked that “My partner has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was breaking it."

“My conscience leads me to continue to work inside the company to fight for corporate autonomy ensuring that it can actualise the social mission, the values that it was founded on while upholding for over 40 years," he explained to media outlets.
