Democratic lawmakers Condemn Trump After He Suggests They Should Face Death Penalty

Lawmakers from the Democratic party expressed outrage after Donald Trump alleged a group of Democratic representatives of being "betrayers" and declared they should be arrested and penalized "by death" following their publication of a controversial video.

The Message That Triggered the Controversy

The clip, shared on Tuesday, includes six Democratic congress members who previously served in armed forces or security positions.

"Like us, you all swore an vow to defend and support this founding document," the lawmakers declared in the brief video. "At present, the dangers to our governing document don't only come from overseas, but from right here at home. Our statutes are clear, you can decline improper directives, you can decline illegal orders, you must refuse improper directives. No one has to carry out directives that violate the law or our national charter."

Donald Trump's Angry Reply

The clip reportedly prompt a furious response from the previous commander-in-chief.

On the following morning, Trump posted on his social media platform: "This represents SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In an additional publication, he declared: "This represents really serious, and Risky to our Country. Their words cannot be permitted to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third publication, he added: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also shared a declaration that said: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Representatives React

Following Trump's comments on that day, Top Democrats released a unified declaration censuring the statements.

"Partisan aggression has no place in the United States," they declared. "Congress members who were featured in the video all served our country with great national pride and honor. We unequivocally denounce Donald Trump's disgusting and risky death threats against congressional representatives, and call on GOP representatives to forcefully do the same."

The Democratic leaders also mentioned that they had been in communication with security officials "to make certain the protection of these representatives and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must right away remove these extreme online messages and retract his aggressive rhetoric before he gets someone killed," the statement stated.

Lawmakers' Strong Answer

The lawmakers who appeared in the video also issued a declaration.

"We are ex-military personnel and security experts who love this United States and made an vow to protect and defend the national charter of the United States," they stated. "This commitment is permanent, and we intend to maintain it. No warning, intimidation, or incitement will stop us from that sacred responsibility."

"The most revealing aspect is that the president views it liable to punishment by death for us to repeat the legal requirements," they continued. "Military personnel should recognize that we have their support as they carry out their oath to the constitution and responsibility to adhere to only lawful orders. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our duty."

They stated: "All citizens must join forces and censure the ex-president's demands for our execution and ideological conflict. This is a moment for ethical certainty."

Further Political Reactions

The Senate Democratic leader also denounced Trump's statements and shared on online networks: "Let's be crystal clear: the ex-commander in chief is requesting the execution of public representatives."

He stated: "This represents an clear THREAT. All senators, all representatives, all citizens – irrespective of political affiliation – should condemn this right away and without qualification."

The GOP leader supported Trump's allegation that the Democrats had participated in "rebellion", labeling the video as "wildly inappropriate", commenting: "This represents very risky, you have prominent officials of the government telling soldiers to defy commands, I think that represents unprecedented in the nation's past."

The Republican leader also allegedly stated to media outlets that in what he examined of Trump's posts, Trump was "defining the crime of rebellion" but that "legal experts have to analyze the terminology and establish all that."

Executive Branch Statement

During a White House press conference on that day, when asked by a journalist, "Would the president want to execute congressional representatives?", the executive branch representative responded: "No."

"We should understand about what the president is addressing," the official declared. "There are active officials of the American legislature who coordinated to arrange a recorded statement to personnel of the American armed forces, to current military personnel encouraging them to defy the commander in chief's legal commands."

She added: "The integrity of our defense system relies on the chain of command, and if that system is compromised, it can cause fatalities, it can cause confusion, and that's what these congressional representatives ... are basically supporting."
