The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Horror Merging Silent Hill and Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several fascinating future games, but one in particular has seized attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience appears to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive experience where a young woman containing several human souls inside her must escape from a labyrinth of the psyche," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of high school age. Inside her reside four separate personas, each with their own anxieties and drives. These souls can take over at will, releasing their innermost terrors upon her suddenly.

Based on revealed gameplay, much of the action unfolds within a creepy medical facility, though other scenes show the protagonist exploring a abandoned chapel.

A World of Personal Horror

"What are you fearful of? What makes you uneasy?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. People in power. Things that appear minor to others can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game delves into that idea — anxieties that are specific to each person."

The central gameplay loop revolves around managing the persona that surfaces at a particular time. However, these identities will change involuntarily during gameplay. While exploring, every persona's anxieties become exaggerated and assault the girl in succession. As the persona changes, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Fatal Decision

At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with nurses who all share the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Patients in the lobby have enormous flowers where their necks should be. Flowers are an ever-present element, contrasting natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "real" one. "All four souls claims that the body belongs to them," notes a creator. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player believes a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. But, since each soul can lie or hide the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the real [soul] by your own actions," a voice suggests. "The last one standing might be a fraud. In any case, your decisions are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed launch window, but it is can be wishlist on digital storefronts.
